SA gets zero for service delivery

Iread with interest Peter Bachtis’ letter about the “Karens” syndrome. I am in full agreement with him, but then one must look at the behaviour of the retailers.

In many supermarkets when approaching the teller you are met with a sullen look after greeting them cordially and in some cases, they are loudly in conversation with a fellow teller some way away, extremely annoying.

On entering a hardware chain (Chamberlains excluded, always helpful and knowledgeable) and requesting information on a product or the whereabouts of this product, you are met with a blank stare and have to wait for further assistance.

Then there are the eateries, especially the takeaway industry. They get your order wrong and when you query this, you are met in most cases with a scowl and a get lost attitude.

How many of you out there have returned home, opened your bag of food and found it either to be incorrect or not complete.

Yes, Peter, there are always two sides to a story and, unfortunately, South Africans get a fat big zero when it comes to service delivery. I have lived in the United States and know what service delivery actually is – and it is great. Garry
